“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” C. S. Lewis
Here it goes. The hardest part of starting this blog post was trying to figure out what to write about. How do I reintroduce myself? How can I engage an audience as I start a new platform? How do I cross the bridge from my old blog to a new blog? I’m not entirely sure how to go about doing any of the questions I just asked myself, but hell – I guess I can try.
If you don’t know me – Hello, my name is Jade. I have been in Philadelphia for over 10 years now and I guess I have finally crossed that bridge from transplant to true resident. I went to Temple University for public relations and did way too many extra curricular activities for my own good. I started my career with a stint in pr at a small boutique agency and then moved over to the in-house communications side of things and work in marketing. As you can see, communications has always been my jam. I have been blogging on and off for around seven years and while my last blog was successful beyond my wildest twentysomething dreams, it always smacked me in the face with the downside of haters, petty bs and learning who your actual friends in the field were. I wasn’t mentally strong enough to keep the writing going after I let too many lackluster comments get the best of me so I gave the blog up.
Time passed and I just couldn’t muster the strength to write anymore. The blog felt tainted to me. I couldn’t get it together. BUT blogging has always been an outlet for me and I invested the time to going to The Blog Connect in April 2017. I saw a few true friends (shout out Emily and Jess), learned a ton of information and thought to myself maybe I could do this again. Ironically, the new name for this blog came from what I was wearing to the conference. I had on a pair of white sneakers with a sparkly toe cap. I said it was me in sneaker form. Hence Sneakers & Sequins was born.
Now you may be thinking – well, if you thought of Sneakers & Sequins back in April, what took you so long? Glad you asked. I was getting married. My brother-in-law was getting married. My best friend of all time and maid of honor was getting married. One of Scott’s groomsmen was getting married. All at the end of Q3, beginning of Q4 this year! We had to travel to all of them! Wedding planning is kind of not fun! There I said it! I knew that if I wanted to start blogging again, I needed to give myself the time off I needed. As I mentioned, wedding planning is kind of fun and kind of not fun all at the same time. So while that would have been great content – I really wanted to start writing again with some peace of mind.
There it is – the hard explanation of where the old blog ends and this new blogging adventure begins. I hope I can share with you the same humorous writing style as I did before while I navigate the never ending realm of lifestyle content. Get ready ya’ll – I am back and ready for you!
